Ashland establishes Signature Control Engineering
as worldwide licensee of SmartTrac Technology

Littleton, CO – In a move to help customers reduce costs and improve composite manufacturing quality, Ashland Performance Materials, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc. (NYSE: ASH), has funded a new entity, Signature Control Engineering LLC that will handle all SmartTrac technology sales and service worldwide. By establishing this licensee, Signature Control Engineering LLC becomes the exclusive provider of this technology to the global composite market.

“We are very excited to offer this technology to our resin customers,” said Tom Trexler, Signature Control Engineering sales and marketing leader. “Customers who work with sheet or bulk molding compound, or resin transfer molding processes can realize significant cost advantages by improving their cycle time and reducing scrap using this technology.” Production cycle time savings average 10% with less than 1 year paybacks on invested capital.

The system, available from Signature Control Engineering, determines the exact moment of cure in a thermoset resin or compound. “The principals of SCE have a combined 20 years of thermoset process control experience and were instrumental in introducing and establishing the technology within the industry,” added Trexler.
